Fundamental

In our fundamental long/short equity strategies we seek to capture stock-based idiosyncratic alpha across global markets by combining our investing expertise with our proprietary systems and risk management processes. Portfolio Managers lead teams of Analysts each with a deep understanding of their coverage universe, company business models and drivers of stock valuation.

Quantitative

Our quantitative researchers are a group of talented individuals with specialisations in a range of subjects including maths, physics, engineering and computer science. They’re responsible for conceptualising, developing and analysing models for use in our quantitative and systematic strategies as well as our electronic trading processes. They look to reduce risk and cost while maximising returns. They have access to a wealth of tools designed to help them build complex models with ease.

Quantamental

Our Quantamental research team has a diverse blend of maths, programming, data science, and financial expertise. When combined with our wealth of data and advanced technology, this creates a proprietary combination of knowledge and technical capabilities, giving us an edge in extracting insights from complex data and bringing forward new investment ideas.

Risk

We’ve invested heavily in our proprietary risk management framework over the years, building comprehensive and robust processes. Our Risk team works closely with the Investment, Technology, Operations and Trading teams to help minimise risk and protect our portfolios. As well as performing critical day-to-day tasks – like closely monitoring and advising on our portfolios – our risk analysts also lead projects that focus on the ongoing development of our risk management platform.

Sustainable Investing & Stewardship

We endeavor to integrate Sustainable Investing principles into various investment strategies. The Sustainable Investing and Stewardship team aims to support the consideration of ESG factors and data for idea generation, identification of thematic opportunities and risk assessments. The team is responsible for coordinating our approach to stewardship, developing proxy voting policies and driving engagement activities

Trading

Our Traders monitor and execute firm-wide orders across all of our strategies. They’re a team who possess a distinct combination of quantitative acumen and market savvy. They develop and implement processes that seek to maximise the quality of execution while reducing trading costs. They also act as the critical bridge between our business and the sell-side.

Compliance

We pride ourselves on our integrity and principled approach to business. Our Compliance team work to ensure we operate to the highest regulatory standards and best practices in every market. They embed a strong company culture and individual accountability through relevant guidance and training. They also assess and mitigate regulatory risks by advising on initiatives and changes in the regulatory landscape. They use proprietary and third-party technology to review and monitor with extensive scale and forensic detail.

Corporate Accounting and Tax

Our Corporate Accounting and Tax teams create strategic solutions for the business that are critical to the optimal functioning of our financial operations. They are responsible for advising on and managing all our accounts across multiple regions and regulatory regimes, as well as the delivery of detailed reports and analysis to Senior Management Committees and Boards. They continually strive to refine and automate processes, focussing on the control and production of the highest quality financial content.

Fund Accounting

Our Fund Accounting team is a dynamic group of individuals who operate in a high-volume, automated environment. They provide a link to the administrators and trustees of the funds we manage, overseeing the third-party valuation, accounting and custody of these funds .

Human Capital

People are at the heart of what we do, and our Human Capital team looks to bring us together with purpose. They instil a culture that values teamwork, humility, integrity and social responsibility. They focus on talent acquisition, training and development, employee relations and performance management.

Investor Relations

Our Investor Relations team incorporates Marketing and Client Servicing functions in London, New York and Hong Kong. They work to create bespoke solutions that help investors achieve their long-term goals. Marketing and distributing our funds to a broad range of clients around the globe, they manage the ongoing needs of our investors through fund updates, performance and regulatory reporting, due diligence and transaction support.

Legal

Our Legal Team collaborates with all of the other teams within the firm, delivering trusted advice and commercially-minded solutions to allow Marshall Wace to be nimble and innovative.  All of the members of the legal team work on a very broad range of projects and gain a wide exposure to the various parts of the Firm.  Examples of work that any lawyer may be handling at any one time: launching a new fund or managed account; running a regulatory implementation project; and negotiating a data contract, a new trading relationship, a distribution deal and an office lease.

Operations

Our Operations team has advanced technical skills to create and implement processes that help improve systems and controls. They drive the scalability of our business while minimising operational risk. Focusing on core operational processes, they provide critical services to the investment and trading teams in trade capture and confirmation, pre- and post-trade control, data management, stock lending and asset servicing.

Treasury

In an ever-changing market landscape, the Treasury team brings together individuals with a wide range of experience from across the Firm. They manage the cash and FX exposure of our Funds, on a global basis, as well as maintaining and managing our interactions and relationships with our financing counterparties.

Cyber Security

As our technology estate grows, so does our demand for talented individuals to manage and safeguard it. Our Cyber analysts are responsible for protecting our technology  and cyber estate and look to  spot and action anomalies and errors that could otherwise have detrimental consequences. As well as identifying and mitigating issues, they highlight cyber risks, define and establish our security standards and build custom defences against the threats our business faces.

Data Engineering

Handling everything from data acquisition and vendor management to data cleansing and enrichment, as well as the engineering behind the data platform itself, the growth and development of our Data Engineering team continues to be a focus for us. The Firm consumes and analyses enormous quantities of data as part of our investment process and the quality and speed of that data is critical to our operations as we look to turn raw data into insights as quickly as possible. Working closely with our Quant Research teams and utilising leading-edge technologies, the Data Engineering team plays a pivotal role in meeting the relentless demand for data across our business.

Platform Engineering

Our Platform Engineering team is responsible for the technology that underpins everything we do here at Marshall Wace. From scaling vast volumes of data that drive our research, to improving and delivering our evolving application estate, their focus is on automation and efficiency at scale. They own our varied technology stack and are in constant search of incremental improvements, new technologies and ways to evolve our platform.

Production Engineering

Our Production Engineers provide the face of Technology to the business. They are innovative problem solvers that focus on troubleshooting and automation, whilst supporting a diverse technology estate throughout the firm.  They have deep systems knowledge gained from working closely with our engineering teams to ensure that our systems are always available and resilient.

Product Design

Our Product Design team is responsible for creating the tools that enable our people to make sense of the vast amounts of fast-moving data we deal with as an organisation. Combining product strategy, business analysis, user research & experience, interaction design, cognitive ergonomics, UI design and data visualisation, our Product Design team crafts tools that are intuitive and insightful.

Software Engineering

Our Software Engineers deliver a platform for our investment and non-investment teams to streamline their workflows. With a wealth of experience across a wide range of technologies, they have the creative freedom to innovate and solve problems using the best tools for the job. They manage complexity on the engineering side to create a seamless experience for end-users and operators.
